Catch-up and cleanup

About half of the businesses we onboard need 3–18 months of historical work brought current before we can put them on a monthly plan. We quote this as a one-time engagement based on transaction volume and complexity — typically $1,500 to $8,000. After cleanup, you move onto one of the monthly plans above.

Why we're different

You're not hiring a bookkeeper. You're hiring the same finance experience PE firms hire.

Most fractional CFO and bookkeeping firms are run by career bookkeepers who learned to talk strategy. Business Insight Services is built around something different.

Business Insight Services is led by a licensed CPA with:

  • Big 4 due diligence background — early-career experience on PricewaterhouseCoopers' Financial Due Diligence team, advising institutional buyers and private equity sponsors on M&A transactions ranging from $50M to $7B.
  • Operator experience leading the finance function at a private equity-backed multi-state operating company, integrating 22+ acquisitions across multiple operating brands.
  • Active practice in PE-backed transaction structuring, including S-corp sale mechanics, Section 338(h)(10) elections, and purchase price allocation.

That experience is what we bring to your $1M–$10M business — at a fraction of what an in-house controller or CFO would cost, with none of the hiring risk.

What clients say

Results, in their words

We went from closing books in week three to week one, and finally trusted the numbers enough to raise prices 18%. That decision alone paid for two years of fees.

— Owner, professional services firm, $2.4M revenue

I'd had three bookkeepers before BIS. None of them could answer a single forward-looking question. They had a 13-week forecast in front of me by week four.

— Founder, e-commerce, $4.1M revenue

When the LOI came in, we already had QoE-ready financials. Saved us 60 days and probably $200K in working capital adjustments at close.

— Owner, light manufacturing, $7M revenue, exit completed 2025

Outcomes

What changes in the first 90 days

Decisions on real numbers, not gut feel

We close the books by the 10th of every month. You stop deciding on last quarter's report and start deciding on this month's actuals.

Cash visibility 13 weeks out

You'll know what's in the bank, what's coming in, and what's going out — well before it becomes a problem. No more Friday morning surprises.

Stop being the bottleneck

You shouldn't be reconciling Stripe at 11pm. You also shouldn't be the one building forecasts, chasing AR, or interpreting variance. That's our job.

Tax season becomes a non-event

Your CPA gets a clean, audit-ready package on January 5th. You get the rest of January back.

FAQ

Questions, answered honestly

Why not just hire someone in-house?
A full-time controller in most metros costs $110K–$150K all-in. A CFO costs $200K–$350K. Our Books + Controller tier delivers controller-level work for under $23K/year. The math works until you're at roughly $15M+ in revenue or doing something complex enough that you need full-time finance leadership in-house. We'll tell you honestly when you've outgrown us.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. We work month-to-month after an initial 90-day period. The 90-day minimum exists because the first month is mostly setup and value compounds — leaving in month two wouldn't give either of us a fair look.
What's the difference between you and a $300/month bookkeeper?
A $300/month bookkeeper categorizes transactions. We do that too, but it's the floor of what we offer, not the ceiling. The bigger difference is who's looking at your books. Most low-cost bookkeepers are not CPAs and have no finance leadership experience. When something complex shows up — multi-state sales tax nexus, a buyer asking for QoE, a banker asking for a 13-week forecast — they're out of their depth. We're not.
Do you work with my CPA or tax preparer?
Yes. We handle bookkeeping and controller work; your tax preparer files. We deliver clean, tax-ready financials to whoever you use. If you don't have a CPA yet, we can recommend one.
What industries do you work with?
Best fit: professional services, e-commerce, construction, light manufacturing, agencies, B2B SaaS. We generally don't take restaurants or pure retail because their margins make our pricing structure a poor match.
What software do you use?
QuickBooks Online for most clients. Sage Intacct for clients $5M+ or with multi-entity structures. We're proficient in both.
Do I have to come in for the first call?
No. All meetings are video by default. We serve clients across the continental US.
How does onboarding work?
30-minute fit call → if it's a mutual fit, we send a proposal within 48 hours → countersign → kickoff call → first month of bookkeeping is in your inbox within 30 days.
